My name is Cindy Schultz and I am the Business & Technology Department Chair at Sentinel High School. I have been teaching for over fifteen years with thirteen of them at Sentinel High School. I have a master's degree in Technology in Education and an Administrative License. I am the lead Web Design Instructor and Content Developer for the Montana Digital Academy, a Flat Connections Certified Instructor, Adobe Education Leader and a Microsoft Innovative Educator. I received the Adobe Education Leader Impact Award in May 2014. Prior to teaching, I worked in the manufacturing, legal and medical fields. I serve on the MCAT (Missoula' Community Media Resource) board.
I teach Graphic Design, Web Design, Digital Film, and Photography. I also teach Business Co-op and Career Explorations. The following classes are the dual credit course opportunities:
Graphic Design 2 with a focus on Adobe Illustrator (MART111A Integrated Digital Art - 3 cr.)
Graphic Design 3 with a focus on Adobe InDesign
Film Study 1 & 2
Digital Media 2
Film Editing 1 & 2 (MART112A Intro to Non-Linear Editing - 3 cr.)
Students that take Graphic Design 2, Film Study 1 & 2, Film Editing 1 & 2 and Digital Media 2 dual credit courses (12 credits), will be well on their way to earning a Media Arts Minor from the University of Montana. They will need to complete 9 additional credits that support their work and development in Media Arts in order to receive a Minor in Media Arts. This year, we have expanded our Media Arts courses and developed a Media Arts Program.
I teach the basics of design in all of my classes along with several of industry standard computer software programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Premiere Pro and After Effects. Students also take the practice Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) exams as part of their class requirements. All of my classes are taught in an online format using Moodle but are face-to-face classes, including the dual credit courses.
The Sentinel Design Studio is a student run organization that serves MCPS and the Missoula Community with print, web and video services. The purpose of this group is dual faceted: to offer real-world, hands on training for Sentinel’s best and brightest in design, as well as offer their talents and skills to the community. For more information, check out the Sentinel Design Studio website.
This year I will be presenting at the NCCE (Northwest Council of Computer Education) Conference in Portland, Oregon, in March of 2017. I will be presenting with several other Adobe Education Leaders at the Adobe Storytelling Academy. I will also be presenting two workshops: 3D Printing using Photoshop and Infographics using Illustrator.
I encourage students, parents and the community to contact me with any questions, concerns or contributions they might have regarding the classes that I teach.
